Doctor Who: Language and Representation blog tasks

 1) Write a summary of the notes from our in-class analysis of the episode. You can use your own notes from the screening in class and we'll also post a Google document of class notes too (you'll need your GHS Google login). 

  • Camerawork and sound: they use theme tunes in doctor who episodes. The episodes have flashback, medium shots, close-up scenes. As the time travel machine takes off (tardis), it goes to another time on the planet.
  • Mise-en-scene: Susan introduced dancing and dresses as 1960's. The setting takes place at a abandoned junkyard. 
  • Narrative and genre: doctor who is based on sci-fi and science fiction series

2) How can we apply narrative theories to this episode of  Doctor Who

that there going to be cavemen people in the next episode.

3) In your opinion, what is the most important scene in the episode and why?

The most important scene in unearthly child in doctor who is when the TARDIS takes off. It time travels in another time in the stone age.

4) What genre is An Unearthly Child and how can you tell? Make specific reference to aspects of the episode.

The genre of unearthly child is science fiction series.

5) How does An Unearthly Child reflect the social and historical contexts of the 1960s?

 It reflected to be a massive hit in 1960's because the series was a science fiction and sci- fi.#

1) What stereotypes of men are reinforced and subverted in Doctor Who: An Unearthly Child? How?

Ian is very physical when there is fighting or physical work to be done.

2) What stereotypes of women/girls are reinforced and subverted in Doctor Who: An Unearthly Child? How?

Barbara is represented in a more homely, caring role in the series.

3) How do the representations of young people and old people in An Unearthly Child reflect the social and historical context of the 1960s? 

It effected social media because they haven't seen a science fiction series.

4) What representations of race/ethnicity can be found in Doctor Who: An Earthly Child? Is this surprising or not? Give reasons for your answer and consider historical / cultural context (the 1960s). Has this changed in more recent series of Doctor Who?

There is only white race people not other races in the doctor who in 1960's.

5) How is social class represented in An Unearthly Child? Think about how education and knowledge is presented in the episode.

That people in class are only white people. In 1960's education and knowledge were different today.
